As we get ready to celebrate 🇺🇸 Independence Day 🇺🇸 let's talk about Voter Protection.
The August Primary will be here before you know it!
The Citrus County Democratic Executive Committee needs volunteers to work as poll watchers during early voting August 9-17 and on Primary Day August 20th.
Each party is allowed to have poll watchers (observers) at all polling places. This is important to make sure there are no voting irregularities and that everyone who is eligible to vote is able to cast a ballot. Being a poll watcher isn't difficult. It's exactly like it sounds. You watch and observe and report any irregularities.
This is important work as we strive to preserve our democracy. The Republicans are certain to have poll watchers. Our presence is crucial, especially in light of Trump's allegations of rigged elections.
There will be training on Zoom for everyone who volunteers. Election laws have changed so it's important that even if you have previously had training that you get updated.
For those of you who are "working" the polls for the Supervisor of Elections and may not be assigned for early voting, please consider signing up to be a poll watcher during early voting.
In addition to poll watchers, we need poll observers. Poll observers are outside of the polling centers making sure there are no irregularities. You do not engage with the public other than on the rare occasion that a voter is turned away and not able to cast a ballot. Then you would approach them and get their information to report if they were denied a provisional ballot. This rarely happens.
